32nd annual Lake Geneva clean-up: 720 kilos of waste

by Quentin Mayerat

Every year, the Aqua-diving association organizes a lake clean-up in September. Since 1992, over 30 tonnes of garbage have been collected by volunteer teams in Geneva’s harbour. This year, 720 kilos of waste were collected, including a few tires and batteries, 679 cigarette butts, two bicycles, 43 kilos of clothing, 163 aluminum cans and much more! These annual collections also provide statistical visibility on changes in the amount of waste present at the bottom of the lake. However, according to the association, the amount of garbage collected remains constant from year to year, indicating that behaviour has not changed over the years. See you on September 20 and 21, 2025 for the next collection.
