Alinghi Red Bull Racing, with its back to the wall, still believes. Justine Mettraux puts in another fine performance in the Défi Azimut. Last but not least, we’re all in Geneva this week for the GVA Wind Festival, where the spotlight is on board sports.
There was jubilation at Alinghi Red Bull Racing on Monday when the Swiss challenge finally managed to take a point off the English in the Louis Vuitton Cup semi-final. At 4-0, there was no room for error. The AC75 on the bull managed to get out of the light airs and fly longer than its opponents. To get out of trouble, Alinghi Red Bull Racing will have to win its next four matches, three of which take place this Wednesday. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the youngsters took to the track in the Youth America’s Cup.
Justine Mettraux in top form
The last full-scale test before the Vendée Globe, the Défi Azimut concluded last weekend. On her IMOCA Teamwork, Justine Mettraux crossed the finish line of the 48-hour challenge in 8th position. She completed the 455-mile course in 1 day, 21 hours, 28 minutes and 50 seconds. A performance that once again attests to the skipper’s consistency.
