Climate protection meets ocean sailing: Boris Herrmann visits Switzerland

by Pierre-Antoine Preti

The first German to successfully complete the Vendée Globe was a guest in Geneva on Friday. At the invitation of private bank EFG, partner of IMOCA Malizia, the skipper spoke to members of the Société Nautique de Genève about his circumnavigation. One of the highlights was the head-to-head race between Boris Herrmann and Justine Mettraux. The two skippers, who sailed almost side by side at times, were even able to film each other.

After breaking his port-side foil, Boris Herrmann ultimately finished in twelfth place. But he is determined to attack again in the next edition. In a video interview with Skippers, he presented the basic architectural features of his future boat. “Narrower, more power and less water resistance”: the boat designed by Antoine Koch should have these characteristics when it is launched on June 19, 2026.

Boris Herrmann also presented his initiative to raise awareness of climate change and his 2025 program.
