Éric Monnin, chocolate in Bermuda, sets course for the match racing world championships

by Pierre-Antoine Preti

For over twenty years, Éric Monnin and his team have never missed the Bermuda Gold Cup. But victory has been hard to come by. Twice runners-up, the Swiss have collected fourth places with almost legendary consistency. Last weekend, the Capvis Swiss Match Race Team added a new line to this frustrating list of victories, finishing yet again at the foot of the podium. Skipper Éric Monnin tells us about the regatta on video.

Nevertheless, the result was more than respectable given the level of the last four (see rankings below). Victory this year went to Sweden’s Johnie Berntsson and Anna Östling, who scored a dazzling double in both the men’s and women’s rankings.

For Éric Monnin, disappointment is already giving way to projection: a few weeks’ rest, then off to China for the World Match Racing Championships in Shenzhen, from January 6 to 11, 2026. Winners of this season’s 60th Congressional Cup, Switzerland’s top match racing team is now ranked 10th in the world on the World Match Racing Tour. This position guarantees them a ticket to challenge the elite at the Grand Final.
