MINI TRANSAT – Mathis Bourgnon, second in the proto class, and Joshua Schopfer, third in the series: the Swiss are at the front of the pack

by Pierre-Antoine Preti

The Transat Café l’Or is drawing to a close. Justine Mettraux and Xavier Macaire(TeamWork-Team SNEF) are in fifth place in the IMOCA class at the time of writing. The race, led by SVR-Lazartigue (Laperche-Cammas) in the Ultim class and Charal (Beyou-Lagravière) in the IMOCA class, is at the end of the line.

In fact, it’s quite possible that the giants of the seas will cross paths with the smaller Mini 6.50s in the single-handed Mini Transat. Clearly the victim of damage, Aargau’s Felix Oberlé was in seventh place among the protos yesterday. In this category, the pleasant surprise comes from Lausanne’s Mathis Bourgnon(Assomast), currently second in the race behind the only flying boat(Nicomatic, Benoit Marie) with a good lead over the third-placed boat.

The other big surprise was the presence of Joshua Schopfer(Mingulay) at the head of the series race. Yesterday’s third-place finisher from Geneva shares the podium with his rivals by a narrow margin.

With seven Swiss competitors at the start, the Mini Transat 2025 sets a new record for Swiss entries. And there’s no doubt about it: quality now equals quantity.
