Team Amaala and Swiss Offshore Team set to start The Ocean Race Europe

by Pierre-Antoine Preti

This Sunday, August 10, The Ocean Race Europe sets off from Kiel. Seven legs and a final in Boka Bay, Montenegro in mid-September. Here’s what’s in store for the seven IMOCA boats taking part. Among them, Team Amaala has just spent two breathtaking months following the refit of the boat and the drastic selection of the Swiss Offshore Team. Seven young crew members, many of them miniature sailors, have been chosen to join Alan Roura’s team. The first leg will take them to Portsmouth.

Walkaround: the complete tour of an RC44

Born in 2005, the RC44 series is still going strong. This summer, twelve units raced in Marstrand, Sweden. Skippers was there. And the boat was visited from top to bottom by GrĂ©goire Siegwart and Kilian Wagen, two crew members of the Swiss boat Black Star Sailing. It was an opportunity to rediscover the workings and maneuvers of this one-design boat helmed by owner-barters and delivered “turnkey” by the organizer.
