The birth of a lighthouse in Geneva

by Pierre-Antoine Preti

On February 15, the new Ylliam lighthouse was crane-mounted at the end of the Société Nautique de Genève jetty. The spectacular operation was carried out under the supervision of Bureau architects. The entrance to Geneva’s harbour is now adorned with a new iconic silhouette. Perched at a height of 21 metres, the lighthouse overlooks a 13.5-metre hyperboloid tower. The reinforced concrete structure of the base contains a start cabin with a breathtaking view of the Bol d’Or du Léman finish line.
