Crans-Montana – Six Senses – the pinnacle of luxury

by Odile habel

The 5-star Six Senses Hotel above Crans-Montana cultivates a refined alpine lifestyle with its luxurious rooms, unforgettable spa area and restaurants. In winter, guests ski directly into the hotel lobby. Or almost.

Crans-Montana is spoiled by the sun, known worldwide for relaxed luxury and surrounded by unspoiled nature – pure relaxation. This unique location harmonizes perfectly with the Six Senses philosophy.
As a trendsetter for luxury and wellness stays, the Six Senses Group has developed a completely new hotel approach, as Neil Jacobs, Managing Director of the Group, explains: “A hotel is of course more than just a place to sleep. We want our facilities and spaces to help you reconnect with the world and discover what makes you happy mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally.”
The Six Senses Crans-Montana fulfills this claim perfectly with its ideal location, elegant exterior and interior architecture and its exclusive 2000 m2 spa area. From the terrace and outdoor facilities of the hotel, which is located directly on the edge of the piste, there is a breathtaking view of the Weisshorn, while the hotel, built in a traditional chalet style, blends harmoniously into the landscape and thus follows the hotel group’s environmental philosophy. This approach is reflected in the use of local building materials such as Alpine quartzite for the façades, larch and oak wood structures and slate roofing. Recycled and renewable materials were also used for the construction. The electricity requirements are covered by renewable Swiss hydropower and self-produced solar energy. Guests can playfully familiarize themselves with sustainability topics in the hotel’s own Earth Lab. In original zero-waste workshops, they can make recycled candles from old cooking oil or create so-called flying seed bombs, which are used to restore habitats.

Six Senses Hotels Resorts & Spas

The hotel connects its guests with nature at every turn. The glass fronts of the 78 rooms and suites as well as the luxury apartment offer a view of the summit of the Matterhorn and the snow-covered Mont Blanc. And the large terraces also help to dissolve the boundaries between the interior spaces and the outside world. The spacious, modern bedrooms contrast elegantly with the bathrooms, which are designed in the style of a forest hut.

Feel-good oasis

The spa extends over two floors and promises an incomparable wellness experience. This is ensured on the one hand by the two swimming pools – an indoor pool with a view of a birch courtyard and a pool on the roof -, the Alpine garden and the open-air cinema. And then there are the saunas in the Finnish, traditional, bio-salt and infrared saunas, after which it’s good to cool off in the cold water pool or ice fountain. The range of Ayurvedic massages and various unique treatments, such as the Swiss chocolate wrap or the detox ritual with Swiss salts, also invite you to let go.
The biohacking recovery room is ideal for quickly getting back into shape after a trip or sporting activity. This approach combines various methods to treat a specific problem. Examples include the ultimate recovery biohack with compression boots, LED red light face mask and binaural beats or the mental reset biohack, which uses a Therabody massage table, guided meditation and an LED red light face mask.

But the spa also has a biohacking recovery salon to quickly get back in shape after a trip or exercise. The principle is to combine different methods in order to respond to a specific problem. For example: biohack of ultimate recovery with compression bottoms, a facial mask with red LED light and binaural battements or even a biohack of mental reinitialization that combines a long Therabody massage table with a guided massage and a facial mask with red LED light.

Experience for the palate

Soon after its opening, the Six Senses with its two restaurants Wild Cabin and Byakko was established on the Crans-Montana gastronomy scene. And its Ora Bar & Lounge has also quickly made a name for itself among lovers of festive hospitality and excellent cocktails. The “High Altitude”, a Säntis whiskey with Carpano Antica Formula, lime, ginger and apple, is very popular, while the cozy Wild Cabin brasserie with its large panoramic terrace and 180° view over the valley is right on the edge of the slopes. And if you want to take a leap from the Swiss to the Japanese Alps, you can do so at Byakko. The restaurant is named after the legendary white tiger that lives in the high mountains of Nippon. Here you can expect top-class traditional dishes prepared with typical ingredients from the region and seasoned with a pinch of boldness.

Luxury residences

The Six Senses complex also includes 17 very luxurious apartments, which are marketed by the Barnes real estate agency. Only five of these residences – three facing the mountains and two facing the valley – are still available. The apartments on offer range from a 220 m2 apartment with two or three bedrooms to a five-bedroom maisonette with more than 300 m2 of living space, all of which have a large terrace. The architecture of the apartments is based on the modern style of the hotel rooms. This is particularly evident in the large glass fronts, which provide a view of the beautiful Alpine landscape. As a buyer, you can design your apartment as you wish and use all the hotel facilities such as the spa, ski room and restaurants, and once you own your dream apartment, you can also rent it out via the Six Senses rental service.
