The SUP 11-City Tour is probably one of the most beautiful and challenging stand-up paddle races in the world. The 220-kilometer course crosses the canals, lakes and rivers of the Friesland region of Holland. Peter Mülhauser, one of the five Swiss participants, tells us about his adventure.

Peter Mülhauser (@peter_mlh), one of the five Swiss competing in the 2022 edition, tells us all about his adventure. The likeable Thurgau native took up SUP in 2020 and chose to make his competitive debut at the SUP 11-City Tour in the same year. A daring gamble, not to say completely mad, but that’s not knowing him well, as he finished first in his category. He tells us with great enthusiasm about his memories and the extraordinary energy that united all the participants. In fact, most of them come back year after year. Peter then tells us about the 2022 edition, his difficult start to the race, punctuated by cramps. Thanks to the mustard that he was advised to eat to re-energize himself, he then managed to find his rhythm and even finished the race on the third step of the podium. He tells us about a 24 h 49 effort, but above all the impression of seeing the four seasons pass by on a daily basis, so varied are the landscapes and the weather.
Peter highly recommends this adventure, and wouldn’t miss a future edition for the world. To prepare himself properly, he advises paddling at least 50 kilometers in advance, to find his rhythm and perfect his paddling technique. During the race, he always takes a spare paddle and really appreciated having his buddy Mark Kruisheer along, who had finished third in the non-stop event a few days earlier. And, of course, nutrition and hydration are also essential to completing the 220 kilometers.
