25 years of Swiss wind

by Olivier Evain

No traditional April 1st fish, but the arrival of our first issue of the year. And not just any year, because in 2026, Skippers will be celebrating 25 candles, no less!

25 years old. A quarter of a century. And a wonderful coincidence. In 2001, the first issue of Skippers appeared, with founder Brice Lechevalier writing about the beginnings of the extraordinary Alinghi adventure. At the start of this year, Alinghi’s return to business, after a much-publicized withdrawal, resonates perfectly with the history of our magazine, of your magazine. So, naturally, we couldn’t resist going to Naples to interview Ernesto Bertarelli for the 38th America’s Cup. We’ll also take you on a journey across the oceans, with reports on the women’s record and the absolute record on the Jules Verne Trophy, as well as a detailed review of the first three legs of the Rolex SailGP, and the results of our Switzerland SailGP Team.

And we’ll be celebrating this anniversary with special features throughout the year. In this early spring, what could be better than a special report on 25 years – 25 cruises? With the summer break just a few months away – yes, it’s time to think about it! -we bring you a summary of the 25 best nautical epics to experience with family and friends. You’ll find all the information you need on skippers.ch.
Speaking of cruising, in the Swiss sailing world, there’s one that almost steals the show with its 50th birthday this year too: the Surprise. Nothing less than a special 50-page issue for the most Swiss of French boats, which has sailed generations of sailors on our lakes, both racing and cruising, and continues to do so so well.

Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Brice Lechevalier, who has entrusted the helm of Skippers to Louis Taurel and myself, naturally remaining on board as an unflappable tactician. 25 years. A quarter of a century. A great longevity, and it’s only the beginning. Happy birthday Skippers Voile & Océan !
