Happy are those who, like Ulysses, …

by Olivier Evain

… a beautiful journey. The Pure 42 is such an invitation to long-distance adventure that it almost makes you feel like a poet.

Continuation and – almost – conclusion of the detailed presentations of the sailing vessels which marked the DĂŒsseldorf boat show at the start of the year. This week, we take you on board a newcomer to the blue water cruising market. Created barely two years ago, this young shipyard is run by three partners whose extensive experience in the field has resulted in a particularly well thought-out boat. Firstly, in terms of exterior design, with a roof that is particularly well integrated visually, despite the deck saloon and cockpit being very well protected, which is a real tour de force on a boat of “only” 42 feet.

When sailing, everything is designed for single-handed or short-handed operation, with the vast majority of maneuvers carried out by two electric winches forward of the double helm station, within easy reach of the helmsman. The deep cockpit offers a strong sense of security, accentuated by the roof, which protects part of the cockpit, and is a comfortable place to sit out of the spray during long crossings.

It’s impossible to ignore the aluminum hull on this yacht, which will certainly be capable of taking you far, in complete safety, even in high latitudes. And yet, the idea is to have fun at the helm and to go fast: double rudder, lifting keel, horn mainsail, carbon rig, ideal weight centering, maximum lightening of all fittings, bulkheads and equipment, among others. On the face of it, at Pure, ocean cruising is not incompatible with performance under sail!

And in terms of interior design, we’re pleasantly surprised: a deck saloon offering a 360° view, ideal for wake-watching in particular; no handrails, but thick wooden fargues along the fittings; a double guest cabin whose bed is cleverly placed under the deck saloon; a single bathroom, but a good-sized one, offering a real shower, and separate toilets. There’s a beautiful owner’s cabin at the bow, with plenty of storage space, as well as an “individual” space that can be customized as desired: office, single or double open berth, or even double armchair with a small cognac cellar… future buyers can give free rein to their imagination.

A boat designed by sailors, for sailors. All that remains is for you to discover it in detail and in video, and to imagine the voyage that would go with it!
