No sooner had we become acquainted with the 28-CC (for center console) than the Swedish shipyard gave it an alter ego in the form of a DC (for day-cruiser) version. This handsome unit, approved for eight passengers, takes up the concept of its elder brother, namely a foiling hull and electric propulsion. The hull is made entirely of carbon fiber using the infusion process for greater lightness and rigidity. It houses a 55 kW motor with a double-propeller base and bearing surface. Given the C8’s weight, its performance figures are quite astonishing: 27 knots at top speed and a range of 57 miles. The “magic” comes from the power of the foils and the hydrofoil, which, according to Candela, reduce friction with the water by 80%. The relatively slender silhouette of the Candela doesn’t give away the fact that it offers two berths for adults and two for children, plus a marine toilet. Enough for coastal camping, knowing that the motor base is retractable for shallow water cruising and, a notch higher, for anchoring. Its spacious cockpit offers ample seating (eight) and a large stern solarium.
