What if the future of superyachting were shaped by the wind? Unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show 2026, the Tyrena 76 M1 embodies a new vision of the megayacht, bringing together technological innovation and refined luxury. The result of a collaboration between French design firm VPLP Design and Italian studio Micheletti + Partners, this 76-metre catamaran is the largest vessel ever conceived by the French firm. It is an ambitious project that aims to reconcile the pleasures of ultimate luxury with a more environmentally responsible approach to cruising.
With its low, sleek lines, generous platform and two rigid wings rising above the superstructure, Tyrena boasts an instantly recognisable silhouette. Unlike motor megayachts with their stacked decks, the designers have favoured a horizontal architecture in which every space maintains a constant dialogue with the sea. This aesthetic choice also serves a broader objective: improving aerodynamic and energy efficiency.
Two Rigid Wings for Ocean Crossings
Tyrena’s defining feature is its wind-powered propulsion system. The catamaran is equipped with two rigid OceanWings, each measuring 363 m², giving it a total sail area of 726 m². Fully automated, the wings harness the power of the wind while minimising the handling demands typically associated with large sailing yachts.
According to VPLP Design’s simulations, Tyrena could reach 12 knots under wing power alone in 17-knot winds. Combined with mechanical propulsion, the technology could reduce fuel consumption by up to 40% and extend the yacht’s range from 3,800 to 6,400 nautical miles, depending on sailing conditions.
This ambition builds on VPLP’s extensive work with rigid sail systems, from the trimaran USA 17, which defeated Switzerland’s Alinghi team in the 2010 America’s Cup, to the cargo vessel Canopée and the MODX 70 catamaran. With Tyrena, the firm brings its expertise in wind-powered performance to the particularly demanding world of superyachts.
A Lifestyle Framed by the Horizon
On board, Micheletti + Partners has designed spaces where elegance goes hand in hand with a constant connection to the water. The yacht will accommodate 12 guests, looked after by a crew of 30! One of the project’s signature architectural features lies at the stern, where a vast Venetian-style deck descends to sea level, transforming the platform into a true terrace overlooking the ocean.
At the bow, a spectacular amphitheatre occupies the space between the two hulls. Arranged around tiered terraces and an infinity pool, this area, inspired by ancient theatres, could host private events or cultural performances in an exceptional maritime setting …
A New Expression of Superyachting
Beyond its aesthetics, Tyrena reflects an in-depth exploration of the possibilities offered by multihull architecture. The choice of a 76-metre length stems in part from structural studies and discussions with several shipyards about the construction limits of an aluminium platform of this scale. For now, however, Tyrena remains a concept. No shipyard or construction schedule has yet been announced …
With this project, VPLP Design and Micheletti + Partners are outlining an appealing evolution of superyachting: a less ostentatious form of luxury, more focused on the experience of travelling, where the most advanced technologies serve a pleasure as old as sailing itself – letting the wind carry you.
