Training
Winter and summer alike, junior camps are all about meeting new people, learning new things and having fun.
The Association des Clubs de Voile Lémaniques is committed to training juniors. It is within this framework that the association organizes camps for juniors. These camps concern the junior classes recognized by the Swiss Sailing Team national framework (ILCA, Optimist, 29er and Nacra 15). They also include RS Feva, a very popular double-handed series for beginners on Lake Geneva.
But for its manager, Thierry Verhulst, the camps have many more qualities than a simple statutory concordance: “Juniors can share best practices. They meet each other, which sometimes leads to the formation of inter-club crews, and they have fun. Another advantage of ACVL camps is that they give smaller clubs access to facilities that they would not be able to set up themselves, for lack of resources or sufficient junior staff. The camps are divided into two categories. “Multi-series” camps welcome between 60 and 90 young sailors during the vacation periods. In 2025, there will be three. Easter will take place in Saint-Raphaël, the summer camp in Lac de Monteynard and the autumn camp in Marseillan. Oriented towards “leisure sports”, they enable participants to discover the series and sailing at sea. “Performance” camps take place from November to March, generally in the south of France. They are organized by series, receive up to 16 participants and are aimed primarily at Swiss Olympic Talent Card holders. Here, as the name implies, it’s all about improving performance, with access to the next stages (Talent Pool SST) as the ultimate goal. We don’t hesitate to go out in the toughest conditions, like the Optimist camp in Hyères in mid-December, “where all the youngsters slept very well at the end of the weekend”.
