To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Skippers Cup, your sailing magazine is organizing two flotilla trips: a sporty and a more touristy version. Which format appeals to you?
In the service of the sailing community
Skippers is committed to promoting the sport of sailing, bundling the driving forces and dynamizing the boating community. We have been doing this not only as a media partner of the largest Swiss water sports events and most boat shows in German and French-speaking countries since 2001, but also as co-founder of the SUI Sailing Awards and as organizer of the Skippers Cup, which we launched in 2011 to mark the magazine’s tenth anniversary. Ten crews from all over Switzerland took part in the premiere in the Caribbean. They sailed around the island of Tortolla for a week as part of a sporty and festive program in the flotilla. The participants were so enthusiastic that they insisted that the event be repeated. Their insistent request was granted. This was followed by a second Skippers Cup in Croatia and a third in Greece. In May 2026, the Skippers Cup will return to where it all began: the British Virgin Islands. Half of the boats have already been reserved.
Sociable and well organized
Next year, a Skippers Cruise will also take place for the first time. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, the Skippers Cup and the Skippers Cruise will be organized with the support of the Sunsail Moorings bases. The two world-leading charter companies, known for their reliability, have more than 50 years of experience and offer first-class service as well as new and well-maintained boats. A local skipper accompanies the flotilla on board a flagship, on which the organizers also sail. From there, they look after the flotilla and intervene if necessary. The anchorages and harbours are booked in advance and the activities ashore and restaurants for the evenings together are also pre-organized. Before each leg, the charter company’s skipper holds a briefing at which he provides information about currents, shallows and weather, thus preparing the sailors for the day ahead. In addition to this logistical assistance, Skippers is supported by the travel agency Voile Evasion. It takes care of the formalities, acts as an intermediary on site and – at the Skippers Cup – provides the regatta management. This allows the participants to concentrate fully on sailing and explore new areas without any worries.
Smooth organization is clearly one of the key success factors of the event. Equally important, however, is the joy of sailing and being together. Thanks to the loyal sponsors, in particular Leopard Catamarans, North Sails, Sunsail, Teamwork and Voile Evasion, the Skippers Cup brings all participants together every second evening for a cocktail, a good meal or the award ceremony. The rest of the time is at the teams’ free disposal. They can treat themselves to some privacy or, as is so often the case, do something together. There is even plenty of laughter at the traditional skippers’ briefing before each leg. Everyone takes home lots of great memories and can relive them as often as they like, as a videographer captures the best moments on camera, including of course the award ceremony.

Skippers Cup around Tortolla, May 2 to 9, 2026
The day begins with a dip in the warm, turquoise waters of the Caribbean, followed by an invigorating breakfast with breathtaking views of the paradisiacal and varied landscape. Around 11 a.m., when the trade wind sets in, we set off. Ten Sunsail 41s are chartered for this week-long sailing rally in the British Virgin Islands. The new Dufour 41s are comfortable, spacious and fast. They have three double cabins, each with its own bathroom and plenty of living space on and below deck. From the Sunsail Moorings base in Tortolla, the route leads over 100 nautical miles past fabulous coastlines and green islands whose names stand for historic events and glorious times: Cooper Island, Virgin Gorda, Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke or Anegada, whose rocks are reminiscent of the Seychelles.
For a crew of six, the week including boat charter (and fees), four evening events and organization costs CHF 1950 per person. Would you like to join us?

Skippers Cruise from Dubrovnik, October 12 to 18, 2025
In contrast to the Skippers Cup, the Skippers Cruise does not focus on friendly regattas, but on leisurely cruising. However, the teams also sail well-supported in a flotilla. Dubrovnik, the medieval jewel on the Adriatic, is just as beautiful within the city walls as it is from the water. The welcome and closing parties of the Skippers Cruise promise unforgettable moments, and not just for fans of the Game of Thrones series, which has created a cinematic monument to the city. The guided tour through the old town is of course a must. The program also includes a visit to the island of KorÄula and its main town of the same name and a wine tasting at the GrgiÄ winery in Trstenik. Of course, there is also daily sailing here. On board the three-cabin Sunsail 41 yachts, each with its own wet room, participants discover the southern Croatian islands of Luka Ć ipan, Mljet, Lopud and the PeljeĆĄac peninsula. The total route of around 100 nautical miles can be adjusted depending on the wind and weather. The Sunsail skipper and two members of the editorial team (including a videographer) accompany the flotilla on a power cat and take care of the organization. Particularly practical: EasyJet flies directly from Geneva to Dubrovnik and the flights can already be booked.
