On the fly

Nice reflex shot by Swiss photographer Jean-Guy Python, at the precise moment when Team Holcim-PRB’s outrigger crashed into Allagrande Mapei Racing’s jib with the damage we all know about. This happened on August 6, at the start from Kiel. Both teams were finally able to return to The Ocean Race Europe in Portsmouth, after repairs. However, following a decision by the Jury, Holcim-PRB will receive points for the first leg. These points will be based on the average of the other legs. The race is due to finish on September 21, in Boka Bay, Montenegro.

Capucinette still leading the Mini Globe Race

Three-time winner of the 5 Jours, two-time winner of the Bol d’Or, Switzerland’s Renaud Stitelmann is in danger of adding a global loop to his glorious record of achievements from Lake Geneva. In the Mini Globe Race, Capucinette keeps winning stages. According to the race website, “he sleeps on board without a pillow or mattress and has left his shoes behind”. On August 12, he came out on top at Thursday Island (Australia) at the start from Fiji. The Globe 5.80 class is made up of 5.80 m epoxy plywood boats. These Corsaire-sized yachts, sailing at 5 knots, are repeating the exploits of the forerunners of the mid-20th century. The first edition of the Mini Globe Race brings together fifteen competitors.
