America’s Cup: on course for the 38th edition

The 38th edition of the America’s Cup, the most famous sailing regatta, will take place in Naples in 2027. The Defender (defending champion) is the team from New Zealand, which will compete against five Challengers. The race will be sailed on the AC75s, state-of-the-art monohulls that demand both enormous performance and technical expertise from the teams. The Challengers include two-time America’s Cup winners Tudor Team Alinghi.

Tudor Team Alinghi repositions itself

At the end of April, the Swiss team returned to the water in Barcelona, the venue for the last edition of the America’s Cup. The aim was to collect training miles and re-internalize the procedures on these extremely demanding boats.

The change in the nation rule has led to a complete overhaul of the crew compared to the last event. The team is now led by Paul Goodison, Olympic champion and multiple world champion. At his side are Nathalie Brugger, Swiss helmswoman who took part in the first edition of the Women’s America’s Cup with Alinghi Red Bull Racing in 2024; Phil Robertson, New Zealand helmsman and team coach during the campaign for the 37th America’s Cup; Nicolas Rolaz, Swiss helmsman and team coach during the campaign for the 37th America’s Cup. edition campaign; Nicolas Rolaz, Swiss trimmer and youngest team member, who is preparing for his second campaign; Pietro Sibello, Italian trimmer and former head coach of the last campaign, who is now eligible to compete as a national sailor under the current rules; and Jason Waterhouse, Australian helmsman and trimmer, who was already a coach and sparring partner in the 37th America’s Cup.

After six intensive days of training, the two AC40s in the colors of Tudor Team Alinghi were prepared for the crossing to Sardinia. The first competition is already imminent: from May 21 to 24, the fleet will meet in Cagliari for the first preliminary round of the 38th America’s Cup Louis Vuitton.
