Pour la première fois de l’histoire de l’America’s Cup, les jeunes régatiers ont l’opportunité de prendre part à l’un des plus prestigieux trophées du monde du sport. La ‘Red Bull Youth America’s Cup’ a été présentée aujourd’hui à Venise et San Francisco. Les portes de l’America’s Cup s’ouvrent aux jeunes talents afin de leur donner dès maintenant la chance de pourvoir contribuer demain au succès d’une équipe.
« Je pense que c’est l’une des initiatives les plus passionnantes de l’America’s Cup et depuis longtemps, » s’enthousiasme James Spithill (ORACLE TEAM USA) qui est devenu, à 30 ans, le plus jeune skipper à remporter l’America’s Cup (en 2010).
« Entrer dans l’America’s Cup est difficile, » poursuit-il. « J’ai eu beaucoup de chance de participer à ma première édition en 2000, avec Young Australia, alors que je n’avais que 19 ans. Cela ma permis d’intégrer le jeu et de me faire remarquer. La ‘Red Bull Youth America’s Cup’ permet de donner cette même opportunité à un plus grand nombre de marins. Nous parlons littéralement d’un virage important de la tradition de l’America’s Cup. Cette démarche s’adresse à la jeunesse qui, jusqu’ici, avait le plus grand mal à glisser ne serait-ce qu’un pied dans l’embrasure de la porte de cette compétition hors normes. »
Ces régates feront appel à un niveau d’exigence équivalent à celui requis aujourd’hui par la Cup et se disputeront à bord des catamarans AC45 à aile rigide utilisés sur le circuit des America’s Cup World Series. La ‘Red Bull Youth America’s Cup’ se déroulera de août à septembre 2013 à San Francisco, au cœur de la 34e America’s Cup.
Red Bull a souvent ‘donné des ailes’ aux jeunes espoirs de différentes disciplines. Cet événement offre à une nouvelle génération de marins la possibilité d’accéder au top niveau de la voile mondiale tout en prenant en mains des machines extrêmes et ultra-performantes.
La ‘Red Bull Youth America’s Cup’ est ouverte à un maximum de 10 équipes nationales de six marins, âgés de 19 à 23 ans (retrouvez tous les détails dans l’Event Notice). Les équipes candidates peuvent s’inscrire dès cet été auprès de l’organisation d’America’s Cup Management. Une équipe par pays sera sélectionnée et chaque membre de l’équipage doit être conforme aux conditions de nationalités du pays qu’il représente.
L’événement bénéficiera de la notoriété mondiale de l’America’s Cup et profitera de la plate-forme de promotion existante, comme la production TV, le web et la couverture mobile. Les stars de la voile de demain seront sous les feux de projecteurs l’été prochain à San Francisco !

For the first time in the history of the America’s Cup, young, talented sailors have a clear pathway towards competing for one of the most prestigious trophies in sport. The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, launched today with ceremonies in Venice, Italy and San Francisco, USA, opens the door for young sailors to gain the experience they need to contribute to a Cup team.
“I think this is one of the most exciting developments in the America’s Cup in a very long time,” said ORACLE TEAM USA skipper Jimmy Spithill, who became the youngest skipper to win the America’s Cup at age 30 in 2010.
“Breaking into the America’s Cup is hard. I was very fortunate when I was 19 to get a break with the Young Australia team, which allowed me to get into the game and get noticed. But this is going to give many more young sailors the same type of opportunity. We are talking about literally turning tradition on its head by opening up the America’s Cup to younger sailors, rather than it being closed off and difficult to get a foot in the door.”
Racing will take place in the same high performance, wing-sailed AC45 catamarans currently used in the America’s Cup World Series. The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup is scheduled for August/September 2013, in San Francisco, during the heart of the 34th America’s Cup racing season.
Red Bull has a long tradition in giving wings to young talent, athletes or even whole disciplines. The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup is opening up the highest level of sailing to young people – on new catamarans that are extreme performance machines.
The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup is open to up to 10 national teams of six sailors, aged 19 to 23 in 2013 (full requirements are detailed in the Event Notice). Teams can apply for entry to America’s Cup Race Management beginning this summer. One team per country will be accepted and each crew member must conform to nationality requirement.
The event will benefit from the global attention the existing platform receives, including television, web and mobile coverage. The sailing stars of tomorrow will be born in the spotlight in San Francisco next summer.
