L’Oyster Funds: un oiseau lémanique racé
«OYSTER Funds», le Psaros 40 dessiné par Seb Schmidt, est un des bateaux les plus réputés et les plus titrés du Lac Léman. Une superbe silhouette d’une longueur de 12.28m et d’une largeur de 3.38m, un mât d’une hauteur de près de 20m, ce navire a tous les attributs d’une bête de course de haute performance. Doté d’une surface de voile de plus de 120m2 au près et d’un spi asymétrique de 270m2, il a été pensé pour les conditions spécifiques du Lac Léman.
Eric Delaye, propriétaire du «OYSTER Funds», n’a manqué aucune des éditions du Bol d’Or Mirabaud, depuis la mise à l’eau du bateau. Président d’un groupe pharmaceutique, passionné de mer et naviguant en Bretagne depuis sa plus tendre enfance, Eric Delaye s’est installé en Suisse au début des années 2000 et s’est rapidement lancé dans la voile lémanique. Il est aujourd’hui très fier de ce Psaros 40 performant: «Polyvalent, l’«OYSTER Funds» a démontré ses atouts en finissant régulièrement sur le podium du Bol d’Or Mirabaud depuis sa mise à l’eau en 2004!»
Cette année, l’objectif est clair: «OYSTER Funds» vise le trophée. En effet, le bateau a gagné le Bol d’Or Mirabaud en 2005, 2008 et 2010. S’il devait le gagner cette année, cela ferait 3 victoires en 5 ans, ce qui veut dire, selon le règlement de la course légendaire, remporter définitivement le précieux trophée et le garder pour toujours!
«Nous avons plusieurs concurrents comme Taillevent ou Full Pelt, mais notre plus grand concurrent reste le «SYZ & CO», le Psaros 40 de Jean Psarofaghis. Jean est un navigateur hors pair qui connaît le lac, qu’il sillonne depuis des décennies, comme sa poche!» témoigne Vincent Boaron, boat captain du bateau. «Les Psaros 40 ne sont pas forcément les monocoques les plus rapides, mais notre atout sur une course comme le Bol d’Or Mirabaud, c’est que nous sommes très polyvalents».
L’invité de marque: Mathieu Richard, grand champion de match-racing
Le cv du régatier Mathieu Richard est impressionnant: la liste de ses victoires en Coupe du Monde de Match-racing est interminable, mais on peut retenir qu’il est resté 14 mois numéro 1 du classement mondial de l’ISAF, qu’il a terminé 2 fois second du World Match Racing Tour et qu’il a gagné 4 Tour de France à la Voile. Il a également été membre du Team Aleph pour la Coupe de l’America.
Pourtant ce navigateur hors pair n’avait encore jamais régaté sur le Lac Léman. C’est sur l’invitation d’Eric Delaye qu’il va barrer le «OYSTER Funds»: «En fait, ce n’est pas tout à fait la première fois que je navigue sur le Lac Léman, j’avais eu une expérience en 420 il y a bien longtemps.»
Mathieu Richard a participé à deux weekends d’entraînement intensif, le dernier s’étant terminé par un démâtage. Cet incident n’aura cependant pas de conséquences fâcheuses puisque le mât est en réparation et que le bateau participera à la Genève – Rolle – Genève, le samedi 9 juin prochain, course connue pour être la «répétition générale» du Bol d’Or Mirabaud.
Le navigateur français semble avoir apprécié ses premiers bords sur le Lac Léman: «Je suis vraiment très heureux de participer au Bol d’Or Mirabaud à bord de l’«OYSTER Funds». C’est une régate mythique et j’ai la chance d’y participer sur un superbe bateau avec un équipage ambitieux. Je suis plutôt un régatier, spécialiste du match-racing, mais je suis sûr que nos compétences réunies nous permettront de bien naviguer.» Il enchaîne: «Eric Delaye, le propriétaire et tacticien, et Vincent Boaron, ont fait le Bol d’Or Mirabaud à de nombreuses reprises. Ils connaissent très bien le lac. Je pense que le mix de l’expérience du lac et celle de la régate à haut niveau devrait nous permettre de tirer notre épingle du jeu» affirme Mathieu! Richard.

OYSTER Funds: an elegant craft from Lake Geneva
« OYSTER Funds », the Psaros 40 designed by Seb Schmidt, is one of the best-know and most successful boats on Lake Geneva. A remarkable silhouette with an overall length of 12.28m, a beam of 3.38m and a mast nearing 20m, this boat has all the attributes of a high-level performance racing animal. Boasting a sail surface of more than 120m2 close hauled and an asymmetrical spinnaker of 270m2, she was designed for the specific conditions of Lake Geneva.
Eric Delaye, owner of the « OYSTER Funds », has never missed a single edition of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud since the boat was launched. President of a pharmaceutical group, the man is passionate about the sea and has sailed in Brittany ever since his childhood. He moved to Switzerland in the early 2000s and rapidly threw himself into sailing on Lake Geneva. Nowadays, he is very proud of this successful Psaros 40: “The “OYSTER Funds” is a polyvalent boat which has shown her strong assets by regularly finishing on the podium of the Bol d’Or Mirabaud since she was launched in 2004!”
This year, the objective is clear: “OYSTER Funds” aims for the trophy. Indeed, the boat won the Bol d’Or Mirabaud in 2005, 2008 and 2010. If she wins this year, she will obtain 3 victories in 5 years, which means that, according to the race’s legendary rules, she could claim the precious trophy and keep it for ever.
“We have a number of competitors such as Taillevent or Full Pelt, but our biggest rival remains “SYZ & CO”, the Psaros 40 owned by Jean Psarofaghis. Jean is a remarkable sailor, who knows the lake, which he has sailed on for decades, like the back of his own hand!” says Vincent Boaron, boat captain. “Psaros 40 aren’t always the fastest monohulls but our advantage in a race such as the Bol d’Or Mirabaud is that we sail fast in all weather conditions”.
Guest of honour: Mathieu Richard, big Match Race champion
Mathieu Richard’ sailing CV is impressive: the number of victories he claimed in the Math Race World Cup is endless. He ranked first in the ISAF world rankings for 14 months and came in second twice at the World Match Racing Tour. He also won the Tour de France à la Voile four times and was a member of the Team Aleph for the America’s Cup.
Despite all of these victories, this outstanding sailor had never raced on Lake Geneva. Thanks to Eric Delaye’s invitation, he will be at the helm of the “OYSTER Funds”: “Actually, it is not really the first time that I sail on Lake Geneva, I had sailed in a 420 dinghy once quite a long time ago”.
Mathieu Richard took part in two intensive training weekends, the second of which ended when the mast broke off. However this incident will not have a major impact since the mast is currently being repaired and the boat will take part in the Genève – Rolle – Genève on Saturday 9 June. This regatta is seen as the “dress rehearsal” for the Bol d’Or Mirabaud.
It seems as though the French sailor enjoyed his first moments tacking on Lake Geneva: “I am delighted to be taking part in the Bol d’Or Mirabaud on board “OYSTER Funds”. It is a legendary regatta and I am lucky to be able to participate on board a magnificent boat with an ambitious crew. I am more of a racer, specialist of the Match Race but I am sure that our combined skills will enable us to sail well.” He adds: “Eric Delaye, the owner and tactician, and Vincent Boaron have done the Bol d’Or Mirabaud many times. They know the lake very well. I think that the mix of the knowledge of the lake and that of high level competitive racing should enable us to pull our tricks out of the hat”.
